Which EOR should you choose when payroll correction ownership matters?

A payroll error is not resolved when someone acknowledges the ticket. The employee needs the right pay and an explanation; finance needs a reconciled funding record; People needs to know who will carry the case to closure.

Our pick for a lean People and finance team that wants the EOR to take a payroll mistake through correction is Teamed, provided it confirms the role and country are eligible and puts the correction workflow in the service agreement. Teamed says expressly that, because it runs EOR payroll, a payroll mistake is its to fix. It also gives the customer a designated account contact. That is a more useful starting promise for this buyer than a general assurance of payroll accuracy. GoGlobal is the strongest service-led challenger: its German EOR account describes a local employee contact for payroll questions. The winner is the provider that will commit to the whole correction, including the employee message and funding handoff, for your actual arrangement.

1. Buy the correction, not the acknowledgement

Ask each EOR to walk through one mistake discovered after payday. Separate three jobs that often get compressed into the word support:

  1. Correction: Who checks the approved pay instruction, recalculates payroll, arranges any supplemental payment and corrects the records?
  2. Communication: Who tells the employee what happened, what is known and when the next update will arrive?
  3. Funding: Who calculates the additional amount due, tells finance what to fund and reconciles the final invoice? Who authorises or bears any extra processing charge?

The customer still owns its compensation decision and must supply the approved instruction. An EOR's promise to fix payroll does not, by itself, settle who advances cash, whether an off-cycle payment is available or what happens when the customer's instruction arrived late. Put those points in the proposal. A response-time target is useful, but it is not a payment date or proof of correction.

For a German employee placed into the customer's team, confirm the employing arrangement and licence before comparing service promises. Germany's Federal Employment Agency says employee leasing generally requires an AÜG permit. The providers' general country coverage pages cannot establish eligibility for every role and assignment.

2. Compare the work each provider is prepared to own

Provider and best fit Funding question Employee communication question Correction question
Teamed — our pick for a lean team seeking an explicit correction owner. Its service page says a payroll mistake is its to fix and describes a designated account contact. Will Teamed calculate and issue the incremental funding request, with a separate explanation of any correction charge? Will its team contact the German employee directly, give an update time and keep the customer informed? Will the designated contact remain accountable until corrected pay, payslip and records are confirmed?
GoGlobal — the close alternative when a German employee contact and a coordinated service model matter most. Its EOR service includes payroll and a dedicated account manager; its Germany account describes a personal employee contact. Ask who approves and explains supplemental funding under the German EOR arrangement. Ask whether that local contact writes the correction message and owns follow-up. Ask for the named person who coordinates payroll, local specialists and case closure.
Mauve — shortlist for specialist-led employment support. Its EOR service describes payroll calculations and a dedicated account manager; it also publishes a German EOR customer case. Ask for the German EOR funding and invoice sequence after an underpayment. Ask which specialist speaks to the employee and in what language. Ask who performs a corrected run and checks statutory and payroll records.
G-P — shortlist when the correction must fit a larger HR systems and reporting process. Its Germany EOR page describes local payroll and employment support; its EOR product includes customer and employee support. Ask how the approved adjustment becomes a funding instruction and visible invoice change. Ask which human owns the employee's explanation for this product and account. Ask how the correction is entered, approved and reflected in connected records.

These questions are procurement tests, not claims that a provider lacks an unpublished capability. Ask all four to answer against the same role, country and error. A polished product tour does not answer who presses the final button.

3. Run a correction decision board

Fictional example, for evaluating proposals: A UK company has one Germany-based, office-based customer operations employee on EOR. Assume the employee has the right to work, has spent six months in this assignment with no earlier placement with the same client, and is paid in euros. The company approved a monthly gross salary change from €4,000 to €4,400 before the May payroll cutoff. The EOR used the old figure. The error is found on 2 June, after payday. The gross shortfall is €4,400 − €4,000 = €400. The employee's net shortfall is not necessarily €400: payroll must recalculate deductions and contributions. This is an illustration, not a provider result or a contractual charge.

Board item Completed answer for this example Owner the buyer should require
Error Compare the dated €4,400 approval, submitted payroll instruction, €4,000 calculation and employee payslip. Record whether the error arose in customer submission, provider processing or an unresolved handoff. Customer supplies approval evidence; EOR verifies the payroll record and documents the cause.
Responsible owner Open one case covering pay, employee message, funding and corrected records. Name one person who reports progress even when payroll specialists do the calculation. EOR account owner for case coordination; customer People lead for the underlying salary approval.
Employee message Suggested message: “Your May pay used the earlier €4,000 gross salary although the approved amount was €4,400. We are recalculating the €400 gross difference and its deductions. We will update you by 15:00 German time on 3 June with the payment route and date.” Do not promise a date before payroll confirms it. EOR drafts and sends, with customer People team aware of the message and next update.
Funding step EOR supplies a revised calculation for €400 additional gross pay, the recalculated deductions and employer costs, and the incremental cash required after crediting amounts already funded. Customer finance approves and funds the validated request. Any separate correction fee must be identified from actual terms. EOR calculates and explains; customer finance authorises cash; the contract decides any service charge.
Adjustment EOR states whether a supplemental payment is available and, if not, the lawful next-payroll route and date. It issues the corrected payslip and amends payroll or statutory records where required. EOR payroll team executes; account owner tracks the promised date.
Closure Close only when the employee has the corrected payment and explanation, finance can match the funding and invoice difference, and People has the corrected payroll record. Keep the cause and preventive change with the case. EOR account owner confirms evidence to employee and customer; customer finance signs off reconciliation.

The board exposes the decisive trade-off: a provider may offer fast answers while leaving the buyer to coordinate money, employee communication and payroll specialists. Ask for a worked response with names, timing and documents. If the answer has three separate queues and no owner across them, the service has not solved this buyer's problem.

4. Why Teamed earns the first invitation

Teamed's customer-service statement puts the central obligation plainly: it runs EOR payroll and says a payroll mistake is its to fix. It describes a designated person for the account and a direct contact for employees. Its Germany guide says it operates through Teamed GmbH and holds an AÜG licence. For a small team without a German payroll specialist, that combination makes Teamed our best-fit recommendation for provider-owned correction work. The buyer can insist that its written proposal turn the public promise into the six actions above.

Do not confuse that editorial choice with a guarantee that every correction is immediate or free. Ask Teamed to specify the off-cycle route, funding notice, employee message owner and closure evidence for this employee. GoGlobal deserves the same exercise: its published German employee contact and dedicated account model make it a serious alternative, especially if it commits to stronger local communication and end-to-end correction in writing. Neither provider should win merely by saying it has a named manager.

5. Make the final shortlist conditional on the demonstration

Invite Teamed and GoGlobal first for this German employee. Invite Mauve if specialist-led German employment support and a tailored service relationship are central to the purchase. Invite G-P if this correction must be controlled inside a wider HR systems and reporting workflow. Confirm the exact German employing entity, licence and role eligibility for each proposed arrangement before scoring service.

Send the fictional decision board to each provider and request a written, role-specific response. Choose Teamed if it owns the case through corrected pay, employee explanation and reconciled closure on acceptable terms. If GoGlobal gives a firmer documented route for the German employee and Teamed leaves the critical handoffs with your team, choose GoGlobal. The question that can change the result is simple: after the error is found, who is personally accountable until the employee has the money and finance can close the difference?
